UPDATE: So, with the back strain I mentioned in this post, this challenge has been delayed by a couple of weeks. My new goal deadline is now July 10th, my 47 Birthday 🙂
I think back to my early 20’s when I worked for a local delivery company. I was in the best shape of my life. I worked 8 hours a day doing physical labor and it showed. It was tough at first, obviously, because your body isn’t used to working that hard physically but eventually you get strong and fit. I have an office job now so 8 hour work-outs are a thing of the past for me.
One of the things that keeps me motivated in my quest to get in shape is seeing other men my age that are in fantastic shape. Celebrities like Jason Statham (53), Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson (49), and Mark Wahlberg (49), just to name a few, are in fantastic shape. Now, mind you, their profession requires them to stay in shape and they have that 8 hours per day to work at it so realistically I know I’ll never get in to the shape that they’re in, but it’s good to have goals right?
Another person who has inspired me is a little less know. His name is Kelly Murphy (47) and if you watched the first season of Tough as Nails then you know he won the competition. “Murph” as he was known on the show is a Retired U.S. Marine so again he’s had a bit of an advantage because he’s lead a physical lifestyle throughout his career. Anyway, on his Instagram, Murph posted a video of himself using an Ab Roller from a standing position.
Now, I’ve been doing this from a kneeling position for a while as part of my routine but I’ve never tried from a standing position. So now I’m setting that as a fitness goal. I want to be able to do 2, back-to-back, standing ab-rollouts by the end of June 2021. That gives me about 1 month and 10 days which should be enough time to work my way up to it.
I’ve been making a lot of changes to my routines lately and adding more and more exercises so I think it’s time to sit down and write down what I’m going to do each day so that I don’t miss anything. I find it helps to have a clear plan every morning and as my workouts get bigger I’m going to require that even more!
